Hello, all~

I’d like to tell you of something you all should have. It’s called a Sigg water bottle. Basically, it’s a bottle made of aluminum and coated with a secret liner that makes sure your water or beverage tastes like water or beverage, instead of plastic, like you have with a Nalgene bottle or conventional type water bottle.

Also, when you have a plastic bottle, they can leach a harmful chemical called bisphenol-A into your drink. This chemical mimics certain hormones in the body and can cause disruptions to your bodily functions. Bisphenol-A [[in various doses]] has been tested and said to cause low sperm counts, an increase in prostate weight by 30%, damage to eggs and chromosomes, permanent changes to the genital tract, and more! Gah! That’s pretty scary, right? Some stores have even started to take Nalgene bottles off the shelves because it leaches this chemical into your drink. All the more reason to have a water bottle that doesn’t do this!

Plastic water bottles are slowly killing the earth. The average American drinks about 137 bottles of water a year, but only about 23% are recycled. That leaves a little less than 40 billion water bottles in landfills. And it takes 700 years for plastic bottles to even begin to decompose in a landfill. Having a 100% recyclable Sigg water bottle both helps keep the number of plastic bottles in landfills down and saves you money that you would usually spend on water bottles. If you’re worried about the cleanliness of your water, buy a water filter that attaches to your sink!

A lot of people are opposed to having an aluminum water bottle because aluminum is suspected to be one of the causes of Alzheimer’s, but tests in Switzerland [[where the Sigg bottles are made]] have proven that the liner in the bottles doesn’t let any aluminum into your drink. There is the alternative stainless steel water bottle, a Klean Kanteen, but those are manufactured in China, where the quality standards are not as high as in Switzerland. All the more reason to get a Sigg bottle! I have two, and they look like this:

sigg

Wow. That picture is huge.

Anyway, as you can see, they come in different sizes and styles [[My orange one is scratched! I was so sad when I found out!]]. The silver one is 0.6 liters and the orange one is one liter. They also come in 0.4 and 0.3 liter sizes for the children, or a 0.75 size that only comes in the sport bottle type. You can get different tops for them, like the one on the left that you can attach a carabiner to and clip onto your backpack or the one on the right for more active use. There are also “mud caps” that just flip open and close, sippy cup attachments, and more! Since all the bottles’ mouths are the same size, every cap fits every bottle.

They last a long time [[over 20 years, if taken good care of]] and don’t break is you drop them. Another amazing thing about them is that they’re 100% recyclable. They cost about $20 [[but mine cost $14 each because I bought them through my school =P]] and you can order them online or buy them at your participating Whole Foods [[but if you get them online, you have to pay shipping and handling, which can cost as much as taking care of a small goat... What? That was random...]]. To learn more, you can visit mysigg.com. This website also has the designs that are available [[they're really really cool]]. So go check it out! Buy one! Buy four! Go crazy! Drink water! Save Earth! Wheeeeeeeee~

::Edit::

Amelia down there [[in the comments section]] brings up good points. I guess it’s just up to you, reader, to do your own research and maybe do the experiment she suggests [[drink from Sigg bottles and see if you contract cancer while you're doing it...]]. Otherwise, be informed, reader, and make your own decisions.

One Response to “Warning! This is an advertisement!”

  1. 1)Sigg’s liner is an epoxy resin.
    2)The main ingredient for epoxy resin is Bisphenol-A (what makes polycarbonate dangerous).
    3)Bisphenol-A can leach in quantities undetectable by lab tools but detectable by the endocrine system.
    4)For Sigg to be able to say they are safe, they must test on something with an endocrine system over a period of time to see if any hormonal (cancerous) changes take place and they don’t.
    5)Sigg bottles with the epoxy liner should not be considered safe.
    6)Sigg will NOT disclose the ingredients in their liner and they will NOT say it doesn’t contain Bisphenol-A.

    Buy #304 Stainless instead. It is the next best thing to glass. And this isn’t an advertisement. I don’t care if you buy from me, REI, or George Bush. All I care about are people making safe choices and doing so before popular media tells them they should. Bisphenol-A is SUPER dangerous.
